Our Story - Record of Burn Database

Record of Burn — New Database

The new Record of Burn database was launched in June 2025, replacing and extending the original Record of Burn spreadsheet hosted on Google Sheets. Work on the database and its public-facing interface is ongoing, but a new Record of Burn form is already in use, allowing anyone to submit details of their money sacrifice.

As has always been the case, the Record of Burn holds all forms of live currency destruction — live currency being money that is in circulation at the time of its demise.

For those interested in the technical details, the database is built using Airtable, with forms created via Fillout and interfaces developed in Softr. Together, these platforms offer significant potential for future visualisations of the Record.

Rev Jonathan has written about the central importance of the Record of Burn to the wider work of money burning in The Vestry post, Record of Burn.
