What is The Vestry?

The Vestry is Church of Burn’s 'dressing room'. Just like in a ‘traditional’ Church, it's the place where you have the ear of the Priest, where you can meaningfully contribute to the Church’s mission and where you get behind-the-scenes access. It’s also where the High Priest loosens his dog collar and lets off steam. Expect 'language'!

 

What is the first rule of The Vestry?

If you take out a paid subscription - or a trial or complimentary subscription - you agree to be bound by the following Oath of of Confidence:

I agree that what goes on in The Vestry stays in The Vestry. If anyone’s a knobhead then I can call them out. But I promise to keep schtum about the magical stuff. If I break this oath of confidence I understand that I may - at the discretion of the High Priest - face the wrath of the Stone of Thanatos.

 

How do I join?

The Vestry is currently hosted on Substack. You can subscribe for £10 per month or £100 per year. Occasionally, we offer free trials if you'd like to take a peek first (NOTE the first rule still applies!). If you’re a dedicated parishioner who can’t afford a subscription but want to get involved and offer your help, please get in touch.

 

 

What do I get?

Joining The Vestry is primarily about offering your support to Church of Burn. We can't thrive or survive without your financial assistance, interest and commitment. We are profoundly grateful to those who keep us going on our mission to change money by changing our relationship with it.

That said, we like to look after parishioners who choose to subscribe. Here's what you can expect from a paid subscription;

  • Bliss: The absolute contentment and wonderful warming glow that comes with supporting the most audacious attempt ever to change the consciousness of humankind, to save the world and fuck with the system of systems that fucks with us every fucking day. As one paid subscriber to The Vestry told us, ‘some things are too serious to be earnest about’.
  • Church Merch Credit: The first 230 paid subscribers to The Vestry can redeem the entire cost of their subscription against our Church Merch. So take out a £100 yearly subscription and you get £100 credit to spend on Church Merch. [ More info below on this AMAZING LIMITED OFFER ].
  • Priority Event Access: You'll be the first to know about our paid events and get priority ticket access. We’re eager to do more of our infamous theatre events. Having built up quite a head of steam since our last one, we expect to sell out quickly. Joining The Vestry is the best way to help make these events happen - and to ensure you're there with us.
  • Advance Notice of Pilgrimage: Everyone is welcome to join with us on the Pilgrimage - so long as they are respectful of both our Ritual and the places of worship. However, only paid subscribers to The Vestry will get confirmation of the time, date and place of the next ritual point.
  • Participation in the Pilgrimage Narrative: Paid subscribers to The Vestry are encouraged to actively participate in uncovering and narrating our ancestors’ sacred practices with money; sacrifices that shaped the old world and helped create our own.
  • Exclusive Art/Merchandise: Over the years we’ve worked with artists such as the late Jamie Reid, the late Pete Loveday, Mark Wagner, CK Wilde, Justine Smith, Gig Depio, Stacey Lee Weber and many more. We’ve sold art at our events and online. In 2025, we’ll expand our offerings to include original and limited edition fine art. As a Vestry member, you get first dibs.
  • Archive Access: The Vestry hosts the majority of Rev Jonathan’s writing on money, money burning and Church of Burn. If you want to engage intellectually with the ritual sacrifice of money - whether as an academic, journalist, or simply in a personal capacity - you’ll need access to these writings.
  • Weekly Updates & Live Streams: News from The Vestry is recorded and released every Tuesday, hosted by Revd Jonathan. We also host occasional live streams, where you can join the conversation in real-time. The Vestry is where parishioners engage directly, make offers of advice and assistance and help formulate and enact our Church's plans for public engagement.

For full detail please read our Terms of Service. But the headlines are as follows.

  • When you take out a £100 yearly subscription you’ll receive your Church Merch credit within 7 days.
  • When you take out a £10 monthly subscription you’ll receive your Church Merch credit quarterly (in other words, you’ll get £30 credit after three months subscription)
    • Credit is ONLY given against paid subscriptions. Comps, free trials etc do not qualify.
    • Credit can only be used against Church Merch - you pay the postage and packaging charges on your order in the normal way.
    • Church Merch credit will expire a year after it’s issued.
